After a long day, your Newborn Care Specialist will arrive at your home just before 10pm (or your agreed upon time.) You will do a quick recap of the day, ask any questions and go over any concerns you may have regarding your newborn. Once the NCS is up to date, you will go to bed and get some much needed sleep for the night! Your NCS will attend to your baby throughout the night, feed, change, burp, soothe and snuggle! If you are bottle feeding, all bottles will be washed by the time you wake in the morning. If you are breastfeeding, your baby will be brought into you as discussed in your consult. In the morning when you wake, you have the choice to either meet the NCS, or have the monitor left out by your door. A full recap of the night will be sent to you each morning.
We are a smaller group and very selective about who we take on. A lot of agencies are charging $50- $65 an hour for the same service. They have a lot of overhead to cover, and positions to pay that we don’t need to budget for. We do all our scheduling in house, and have a lot more flexibility. On the other hand, there are people charging less who may not be certified and have the education and experience needed as they are just starting out.
I believe all NCS positions in MA currently have “lightly resting if possible, with a listening ear” as the norm for this position. Awake care is typically double the cost and done in a well lit room separate from the baby, with a monitor. If you prefer awake care, this is something we can offer.
With years of experience, one of my favorite things to do is to promote healthy and safe sleep habits from early on. I will show you how to get your baby comfortable in the bassinet/crib, so when your child wakes, they will learn to self soothe, in turn allowing you more sleep in the long run. A lot of nighttime patterns, come from the day, and I love sharing my knowledge of how best to help make your nights a lot smoother. There’s never been a baby I couldn’t help adjust in a safe and caring way, I can promise you that.
The NCS will bring your baby to you when your child is ready to eat. We will take care of diaper changes and burping so you can get the most of your sleep. As your baby grows, we encourage you (but certainly don’t push it) if you’d like to pump a bottle or two, so you can get more quality sleep for longer. The NCS will then take care if and wash all pump parts and bottles for you.
